One of Sydney Rye’s dear friends, Hugh Defry, has been accused of a brutal murder, but even though he has no memory of the night, Sydney believes he is incapable of such violence.
Called to investigate by Robert Maxim, a man she has until now, considered her greatest enemy, Sydney flies to Miami searching for the real killer. Rye’s suspicions are raised when she learns that Maxim not only wants to work together but also wants to build a friendship. She doesn’t begin to understand his motives until her former lover follows her to Florida to tell her a devastating secret.
As more people from her past turn up, and not knowing whom to trust, Sydney sees that her personal fight for justice has become something more than she had ever imagined and she is pushed towards making a decision that will change not just her life but possibly the future of the crime fighting.
Review – I received this book in exchange for a honest unbiased review.
First I want to say how much I love the cover. Especially when all of the books in the series are lined up. So far I’ve read the first book Unleashed (which you can get for FREE) and this new book The Devil’s Breath which is the fifth book in the series. I want to go back and read all the ones in between when I have more time. I actually wouldn’t mind having paperbacks of these to take to the beach too – they are that good!
Sydney Rye is likable (so is her dog Blue), the book is fast paced and it really kept me on my toes. I had no idea who the bad guy was. People from Sydney’s past showed up in this book which made me really want to read the others but the author did a good job of catching me up on who was whom. The Devil’s Breath was a fun read with Mystery, Action, and Romance.
There is violence and sex so not for readers under 18.
Excerpt from The Devil’s Breath is available on Emily’s Website.
Catch up in the series while you wait with the SYDNEY RYE (Books 1-3) **Book 1 is free** and STRINGS OF GLASS (A Sydney Rye Novel,#4) on Amazon.
