1. Why did you decide to write under two names?
I began writing as Graylin Fox in 2011. When the Arcane Court series started, I wanted a pen name for the darker fantasy aspects. There is quite a bit of violence, death, and blood in those books. So I created another pen name to separate the genres. All of the Rane Sjodin books are dark. As of now, they are all set in the Arcane Court world.
Graylin books, while they have fights and death (Contessa) are much lighter in tone, there’s paranormal romance (Candy Man), and I’ll have more lighter urban fantasy coming out next year as Graylin.
2. Who is your favorite character?
I have two. My guys from the Arcane Court. Cimmerian, 750+ yr old dragon shifter, loves his job hunting down demons. He’s devoted to his friends and created a family at the bar he owns.
The other is Wretched (Wretch) Spawn. Cim’s best friend, a half dragon – half demon, who loves his women curvy, his brandy by the bottle, and killing anything and everything that gets between he, Cim, and their goal.
3.What was your favorite scene or chapter to write?
I love writing fight scenes. I hop around the room to make sure the moves are described close to accurately. One of the most fun was Cim and Nitha (dangerous demoness) in Death Dealer. They fight on a dock over the Mississippi River.
4.What do you do when you aren't writing?
I make a living as a Clinical Psychologist. ?
5. Do you have a day job?
Yes, see above.
6. What is your favorite writing snack?
Garlic sesame sticks from Whole Foods. Now, I need to grab a handful!
7.What project are you working on now?
Book 3 in the Arcane Court (Shadowed Vengeance) and a novella set in the same world (Puberty is a Demon).
8. How did you come up with the title?
Death Dealer was easy, I knew when I wrote the title that was Cim’s title in the paranormal world. Red Lady (book two) is named for the drug they find out about in that book. Shadowed Vengeance (book three) is because Cim wants to start acting on information instead of reacting after something happens. We’ll see how well that works. Puberty is a Demon – the story is about a tween (12) who’s human mother has to deal with her emerging demon powers. Like shifting into horror movie monsters in class when she’s pissed off.
9. Is anything in your books based on real life or is it all imagination?
With my background in psychology, I try to make sure the characters are true to their nature, and relatable. All of them have a sense of conscious, even if they don’t use it. I have books written as Graylin Fox that come from my work as a psychologist. Your Biggest Fan is a novella about a woman who obsesses over a boy band member in high school and then turns back to that mental comfort when a tragedy strikes in her twenties. Smolder (waiting on rights return from Ellora’s Cave) is based quite a bit on me. Ellie is a hospital psychologist in Savannah (at a hospital where I did see patients). She has a better love life and a serial killer on her ass. I didn’t have those. ?
10. Tell us in one sentence why someone should read this book.
Death Dealer is fun. If you like action/adventure, then I packed this book with it. Also, it’s a mystery. Who’s killing humans and leaving bodies around the French Quarter, and why? I do sprinkle humor so it has light moments. My father asked when he got 75% of the way through, “Just how many people do you kill?” Lots, Dad. Lots.

- Blurb:
My name is Cimmerian. I’m a dragon shifter living in New Orleans. Someone is screwing up my pre-Mardi Gras plans by leaving mutilated human bodies all over town. I have to find out whether or not a demon is behind this. If so, are they building a human to animate with demon magic? If not, we have a human serial killer just in time for the town to flood with tourists.
Things were so much quieter on vacation.
Damn, I’m glad to be back at work.
