From the Award Winning Author of Millicent Marie is Not My Name

Ballet and baking pies – these are two of twelve year old Georgie Harris’ favorite things. When her parents decide to move closer to her grandmother’s nursing home, Georgie quickly learns the bad news: dance lessons are too expensive in this new town.

Instead, Georgie spends most of her time baking pies to bring to her grandmother at the Willow Lakes Nursing Home. There she meets Eve, who inspires Georgie with stories of having danced with a world famous Russian ballerina many years ago.

As Georgie and Eve’s friendship evolves, their tales intertwine in this feel good story showing dreams really can come true.

Review – My seven year old jumped all over it but my nine year old snarled her nose. By the cover she thought it was baby-ish. I explained that this is a middle grade book so she conceded and sat to read with us. I actually liked this book too even though it was written in present tense which usually makes me cringe but it worked here. It pulled the girls in and they would say – Another chapter Mom, another chapter!

This book has two story lines. The first being Georgie trying to figure out a way to make money for dance lessons. I loved this because my girls are little entrepreneurs and really connected with this. They  even came up with their own ideas. The second storyline was with Georgie's Grandmother's roommate in the nursing home.

The storylines come together beautifully and my girls really enjoyed it. We are all looking forward to more books by Karen Pokras Toz.

I received a copy of this book for my honest review, no other compensation was received.

  1. One of my favorite memories is when my mom and grandmother taught me how to make Christmas cookies when I was very little. They let me run the mixer and I was so happy.
