How to Make Tombstone and Halloween Shaped Sandwiches
These are a fun spin on boring old sandwiches, perfect for spooky lunchtimes or parties. Use whatever shapes you’d like and all your favorite sandwich fillings.
TIP: Depending on the shapes you make, this recipe can leave quite a bit of spare bread. You can freeze the bread. Then thaw it and dry it overnight to create your own homemade stuffing for Thanksgiving.
Supplies Needed:
Bread
Your Favorite Sandwich Toppings
Icing to Decorate. Or you can decorate with mustard, jam or peanut butter
Knife
Cutting board
Optional cookie cutters in Halloween shapes
Step 1: Cut Tombstone Shapes
To make tombstones with a knife, take a full piece of bread and slice on a slight angle on the right side.
Then make a similar cut on the other side.
Next, cut on an angle across the top.
Then do the same on the other side.
To complete the shape, cut the crust off the bottom if you’d like. Make 2 of these shapes per sandwich.
Step 2: Cut Shapes with Cookie Cutter
If you’re using a cookie cutter, you can also prepare those shapes. Metal cutters are easiest, but plastic (shown below) works too. Just make sure to press firmly down onto your cutting board to create the shapes.
Make two shapes per sandwich and make as many types of shapes as you’d like.
Step 3: Put Your Sandwiches Together
Make sure you have small enough pieces of meat, cheese, lettuce, etc. to put together your sandwich. Here we’re adding mayonnaise, mustard, meats, cheese and lettuce to our tombstone.
Close the sandwich and decorate as you wish. My girls love these, especially since they get to help!
