I've been making my own laundry detergent on and off for many years. Especially when times are tight I make EVERYTHING I possibly can from Scratch.
This is a very easy recipe!
Shread 1/3 of a bar of Fels Naptha (or I have also used Ivory) and put it into a sauce pan with 6 cups of water and let it melt.
Add 1/2 cup of Washing Soda (NOT BAKING SODA – I found this at Publix grocery store) Add 1/2 cup of Borax Powder and let it dissolve then remove it from the heat.
Pour 4 cups of HOT water into a bucket. Mine is a 2 gallon bucket, then add the soap mixture to it and stir, add essential oil if you want some scent. Add another gallon of water and let it sit for about 24 hours.
Use 1/2 cup of detergent for your clothes. This is super cheap and lasts forever. I've had it not quite gel up right but it still worked fine.
what is washing soda? is it necessry? to use in the recipe? i know what borax is and also i guess u can use any type of bar soap as long as it is gentle?
I’ve always used it. It’s also called sodium carbonate and it is what removes the stains out of your clothes.
What is the borax powder? Ok my question is…does it cost more to buy all the stuff to make it than just buying laundry detergent & if not how much does it make & how long does it last? Just wondering which one would cost less & last longer?
Borax powder is an all natural powder. You will maybe spend $10 but will have enough to last you the year. You can make it in small batches. I have had it last 6months before I used it up and it was still good.
