We always make our own hot cocoa, it is so easy to make and so much cheaper to make it ourselves. That is why when I saw the gift sets in the store….I said no way am I spending that! Not when I can make it so inexpensively.

Don't worry, these mixes are super easy even for the crafty or recipe challenged. If you can follow simple directions, you've got this! I love to make these but I love to get them too. They're perfect for cozy nights when you want something yummy. Perfect for teachers, your mail person, anyone would love to get this gift!

You can make variations of this recipe and give them multiple! Add a little cayenne to make it zesty! Or add a layer of peppermint! 

What you need

2 cups powdered nonfat dry milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Optional: 1/2 cup non-dairy creamer
1/2 cup Chocolate chips

Steps to Make It

Take a large mixing bowl, whisk nonfat dry milk, sugar, cocoa powder and creamer together until smooth.

Pour the hot chocolate mix into a jar of your choice. Layer the mix with marshmallows and whatever you decide to mix in. For the picture I had brown sugar, the cocoa mix (without creamer) and then marshmallows. Seal the jar, tie with a ribbon, and include this recipe for making homemade hot chocolate with the mix.

Warm 6-8 oz. of milk or water (must use creamer in mix for water) in a saucepan or the microwave until hot, but not boiling. Add 2-3 heaping tablespoons of the hot chocolate mix. Stir well. Top with marshmallows. (and add ins if you add peppermint or candies)

**I prefer making mine without the creamer and making with almond milk.**
