I have a lot of friends who aren’t even starting their families until they are in their 40’s now. Times are different. People have certain goals to meet before they have children. I get that. I don’t necessarily agree with the woman who was 67 having the twins but 40’s definitely!
Many of my friends didn’t think they even wanted to have children until they were older. Now they are settled, have their careers, enjoyed their 20’s and 30’s, and now have decided that they want children. I’m happy to see there is a safe alternative.
I think it’s safer to use frozen eggs when you are older, I’ve been in mom groups before with women who had children in their 40’s and their children had issues. Your children can have issues at any age but the older we get the more of a chance we have. The chances of having a baby with down syndrome jumps a lot with a mother over 35 and a lot more when you are over 40. I honestly don’t think that should stop us from having children.
I personally am in favor of using frozen eggs. Whether they are yours or from someone else. (I have a friend that has donated her eggs to several families. Some even have a contract that she will meet the children when they turn 18 if the children want to, others not. She knows that these children are not hers.)
What do you think? Are you going to save your eggs just in case? Would you use another woman’s eggs?
