In 2012 “What is Love?” was the most searched term on Google. I was probably one of the millions that searched the term that year. I was recently divorced and doubting that I understood love. I was also deep into writing one of my many romance books and I had lost interest on the topic. I fell in to research on love and it started with a definition.
Love by definition means:
Noun -An intense feeling of deep affection.
Verb- Feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone.
Deep feelings, affection, attachment, and sex all those words were used to describe love. Those are the exact ingredients I use to write my romance novel. I just happen to give the guy irresistible features and the prefect appetite for romancing. I’m not an expert on love and I will never claim to be one either, but I have been in love and write enough about it to know these facts…
1. When love takes over you lose control and I mean that literally. It’s a medical fact that when you are ‘in love’ a whole mess of chemicals release. Things like pheromones, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin, and vasopressin. I don’t even know what half those things are but they take over and leave you blinded by love at least for a while. That is way it’s not too far fetch for characters to fall in love so quickly in a book.
2. Love is not only for couples in a relationship but also for family, friends, animals, and things. You know I have a pair of shoes that I love, I mean love. I would wear those shoes everyday if I didn’t look out of place wearing them. The heel is perfect, the arch and the straps hug my feet like no other shoe. But outside of my love affair with my cheetah print heels, I love my family, I love my best friends, and I love anyone one that reads my books (hint, hint).
3. Love is never there when you want it but it’s always there when you need it. This is so true. In romance novel the main character is never looking for love. He or She in fact most of the time have other agenda then here comes love and tackles them until they fall. I know they few times I fell into the pool of love I wasn’t concerned with finding someone, hell I was happy being single. But I fell and it happen so fast I couldn’t figure out what was happening. I may not have been looking to be in love but love found me and it was perfect timing.
After all the research I concluded that love is timely, irrational and sometimes tangible but it comes in my forms. The love of your life may not have dashing good book looks but if they love you and you love them you are rich with love.
Now I ask have you told someone you love them today?

About Lola
Lola James has been reading romance novels since her teens, and fell in love with the paranormal after discovering Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Her love of the dark worlds of vampires and witches, as well as her fascination with Greek mythology led her to create the Spellbound Series, an ongoing Paranormal Romance combining all of the above into tales of suspense with a little bit of humor in an Urban Fantasy setting.
A long time lover of reading and writing with a passion for a great story, James became discouraged by the complicated and arbitrary publishing process, James had initially set down her laptop and her hopes of being a writer. However, with the purchase of her first e-reader, James became re-energized by the new possibilities for an undiscovered author to reach the masses. Dusting off her keyboard she finally finished Bound to Remember, the first book of the Spellbound Series and self-published it. Energized and ambitious, James is now hard at work on both the Spellbound Series as well as the Fate Series, a paranormal romance about dreams and what happens if they come true.
