Living in sunny Florida, the kids here don’t see much snow, but that doesn’t stop us from building snowmen! These marshmallow snowmen are part craft, part treat. Stack three big marshmallows on a paper straw, paint on a face and buttons with food coloring, and give each one a little marshmallow nose. They’re easy enough for little hands, and they make a sweet topper for a mug of hot cocoa.

Tips for little decorators
- Use gel food coloring. It’s thicker than liquid coloring and won’t run. A clean, thin paintbrush works best.
- Black decorating gel or an edible marker is an easy alternative to painting.
- Give them hats and scarves. A chocolate kiss or mini peanut butter cup makes a hat, and a strip of fruit leather makes a scarf.
- Let them dry for a few minutes before handling so the faces don’t smudge.
How to make them stand up
Put one marshmallow in a cupcake liner and microwave it for about 10 seconds until it puffs. Press the snowman’s straw into it and let it set. You can also poke the straws into a block of floral foam wrapped in foil, or a jar filled with sugar or candy.
