We were going out to get burritos every week and were spending around $30 which isn't bad for a family of four but I decided I was going to start making them myself.
When I broke down everything the MEAL comes out to around $4. Yes you read that correctly. $4 and it's VERY good.
You can actually make it even cheaper depending on what you add to the burrito. For this recipe we added the fish Mahi Mahi.
In my estimates I am shooting high. I buy everything in bulk then break it down. We've been making many variations of the burritos for quick inexpensive meals and it has slashed our grocery bill by a lot since we aren't using as much meat.
If you choose to make your own burritos wraps it'll cost you less than $0.25 for your meal. If you buy them it's about $1? Maybe more depending on the brand.
Fresh Salsa is only $.50 for the meal for 4 when you break it down per serving.
Beans – I buy the bags for around a $1 and honestly I only use about $.12 worth for the burritos. They are a great healthy filler.
Corn – I buy the huge bags in bulk. I estimate $.50 in corn but that's high.
Rice – I buy this in bulk and frankly it's so cheap when you break it down it isn't much at all. Simple cents.
Mahi Mahi – I buy the large bags at Sam's and only use two fillets for the entire meal so cost is $2.66
So the meal comes to around $4. I do add some sort of greens in there too but they don't cost much or a little sour cream if that is your fancy.
Other things we add:
Avocado
Chicken
Ground beef
Hummus & Touboli
Olives
Onions
Whatever YOU WANT!
I am with you, this is so much cheaper and healthier too!!!
Wow, didn’t realize how cheap that could be. I see homemade burritos in our future.
What a fantastic idea! Looks so yummy and I surely love saving money!

That does look really good. I’m going to check out a local coop for bulk buying options.
