Every year we go on a family vacation. Due to my husband's work we usually vacation in the winter since he is so busy during the summer. The past few years we've gone to the mountains of Tennessee to visit the Smokey Mountains and Dollywood. This year my girls finally saw snow and we're ready for something new. Next year I can finally have my luxury vacation in the sun! For Christmas next year I want to rent a Costa Rica beach house.
I've wanted to visit Costa Rica for a long time. Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, mountains, and so much to do! It is perfect for a fun family trip. I also homeschool my girls so we plan on visiting a lot and making it as fun and yet educational as possible. We also want some down time to enjoy a luxury vacation.
I've compiled a list of things to do in Costa Rica
BeachÂ
Costa Rica has some of the best beaches in the world and surfing too. Some of my friends head over every year just to go surfing and my daughter really wants to go too. There are many different types of beaches, some are secluded, some are full of reefs, and others are packed and full of amenities. There is a beach for everyone!
MountainsÂ
My family loves to hike and to mountain bike and we're looking forward to experiencing some of Costa Rica's mountain ranges. There are mountain peaks for the beginner and for the experienced. We're looking forward to seeing volcanoes and waterfalls as well. Bosque del Niño peak has both! My husband is very excited about a Single-Track Mountain Bike Tour in Arenal Volcano. It is a 12 mile ride that crosses streams, open country, and through the base of the active Arenal crater. It is a 4 hour ride and you can see all sorts of animals like monkeys and toucans. If you aren't into mountain biking but like to cycle, there are plenty of places to rent a bike and go explore!
RainforestsÂ
I have a friend that lives in the rainforest of Costa Rica, he also has a nice view of the beach. Am I envious? You betcha! He even has sloths in his yard and I get excited every time I see him post pictures! I can't wait to stop by and say hi. My youngest daughter wants to visit Costa Rica for the sloths alone! We're taking a tour through the rainforest to see all of the animals like monkeys and birds. We're also going to go ziplining. I can't wait! Costa Rica is a great eco-friendly place too!
Water toursÂ
My husband loves to go deep water fishing. Costa Rica has some of the best! Many fisherman call it their bucket fishing trip because the fishing is so great and there are so many different kinds of fish. You go out with an experienced captain who takes you to all of the best spots! Costa Rica also has scuba diving where you can check out their reefs. I'm really looking forward to that.
Not only does Costa Rica have beautiful oceans but many rivers as well. You can enjoy river rafting and boat tours.
Jungle
A jungle and a rainforest aren't the same thing. If you’re thinking of towering trees draped with vines, that would be a rainforest. A jungle, on the other hand, can exist on the fringes of a rainforest, but the thick undergrowth requires more light. Jungles will often be found where rainforest has been opened up through natural disturbances, like a fire, hurricane, or river. I want to visit the Corcovado National Park. It is home to exotic species such as scarlet macaws, all 4 Costa Rican monkey species, and the endangered jaguar. You can also take kayak tours through the jungle, how cool is that?
City
Costa Rica has excellent food, wine, and nightlife. You can emerge yourself in culture by visiting the city markets and local museums. If you are looking to get a good grasp of the culture visit their National Museum in San Jose. It is a 19th-century building contains a well-organized exhibits on Costa Rica's history and culture. You can even get private tours that include lunch.
Costa Rica is the perfect place for foodies. Visit walking tours that combine history, architecture, and food! Check out coffee and chocolate tours, and enjoy local beer and wine tastings! If you stay at a luxury retreat, you will have a gorgeous kitchen to cook for yourself! I always love the option to cook my own meals when on vacation and I'm looking forward to checking out all of the markets.
I'm really looking forward to our trip, Costa Rica is a great place for both families and friends to get together and travel to. Did you know that you can rent large luxury homes that sleep 22 people? This is perfect for family reunions or even company retreats. In my case I'd like to set up a writer's retreat. I can't think of anything better than sitting at the beach writing. I don't think I'd ever want to leave the house!
Costa Rica has something for everyone, no matter what you like. The city, the country, the mountains, and of course my favorite.. the beach. I really can't wait for my vacation!
Have you been to Costa Rica yet? Or plan on going? Let me know in the comments where I should make sure to visit.
