Destiny Unhinged

VANESSA anxiously waits for her birthday, a boyfriend and some much needed excitement in her dull and boring life.

She soon finds herself torn between two guys. Well, I guess that is what she would call them, even though one is a dead Alien King.

MAX, a dead alien who is trapped in limbo between two worlds and longs for Vanessa, his destiny, to help him home and become his Queen. He offers her his world, his heart and his future.

TOBY, a good looking guy who shows an interest and a desire to be with Vanessa, has confessed that he too has a destiny that he’s meant to be with another. However, it’s a destiny he doesn’t want.

The connection that Vanessa has with Max is strong but the desire she has for Toby may be even stronger.

Will she accept what Destiny has in store for her or find a way to escape to find one all on her own?

About Kimber Shook

I’m a huge sci-fi fan. I love all the paranormal, fantasy and sci-fi genres, of course, when romance is thrown in, it just makes it even better.

I grew up with a desire to write. Now being considered a middle-aged woman I have decided I’m running out of time. I stopped taking for granted the amount of time I have left to live and take matters into my own hands by actually working on a dream.

Writing a novel, Destiny Unhinged. It’s a great feeling to say I’m not just waiting for life to come to me, but rather I’m going after it and not
letting go.

Read an Excerpt

Just then I thought for sure I heard something. I do a

visual scan of the area for as far as I can actually see.

Toby must have caught my sudden alertness, so he turns on his

flashlight.

Getting so caught up with Toby, I didn’t realize how dark

it has become. I am concentrating so hard onto Toby’s eyes that

I lost track of time and my surroundings. It is all but pitch

black with only a hint of light from the crescent moon above and

the small amount of illumination coming from Toby’s pocket size

flashlight that I can barely see anything past two feet in front

of us.

I know I am only feeling silly but thank goodness I am

with someone, someone like Toby. He looks so brave right now. I

don’t want to be alone, alone in the dark, alone in the dark in

a cemetery, especially this particular spot that I felt such a

strange occurrence earlier today. This is the perfect setting

for some kind of creep show where zombies would start popping

their desecrating heads up from beneath the crust of their

eternal resting place. Gee, you’d think I’d know better than to

go there. This is the wrong place and definitely wrong time to

get my heart in such a frenzy state.

I take a moment to look down at my two feet. Yep, they are

still firmly planted on the ground. I’m determined to remain

there and to remain calm, keep in sane, no, not insane, in sane,

I correct, but at the same time I am enjoying this satisfying

moment with Toby.

“I don’t see anything, Vanessa. Are you ok? Are you warm

enough? You’re shivering. Here take this”, Toby takes off his

jacket and places it around my shoulders.

“Thanks, Toby. I guess I may be a little chilly. Why don’t

we find where Jules and Har. . .?” My eyes widen with disbelief.

A thick purple-like fog is surrounding the both of us. Toby,

spins around to notice what stops me, he too, apparently notices

the thick dense fog which encases us without our realization.

“Come on, let’s get out of here.” Toby grabs my hand and

tries to pull me through blockade of fog. I can’t budge. I feel

Toby tug at my arm but I, at the same time, feel something

grip onto my leg tightly, securing me in place again. I can’t

breathe, scream, cry, blink, anything. I am stuck here in limbo,

between this thing holding my leg and Toby, tugging and coaxing

me to move.

“Come on, Nessa, let’s get out of here.” I can hear Toby

ordering me as he is still trying to pull. He bends down, wraps

his one arm around the back of my legs to scoop me up in his

arms but he doesn’t. He looks as if he is trying, though I don’t

think it is because he isn’t strong enough, I’m certain. Oh, I

hope I’m not that heavy for him. I can see he is still trying,

still straining but I no longer can feel his touch, only the

stronger force that is holding me snug and secure in place.

“Nessa, you there? Hello? Help me!” His face is streaking

red before my eyes in his desperation to pick me up.

I can hear him plead with me, but why can’t I turn my head

down to look at his efforts. What is happening to me? This must

be some kind of nightmare because my immobility is not making

any kind of sense to me right now.
